PM for consensus on right to strike

 The Supreme Courts had ruled in August that government employees had no fundamental, legal, moral or equitable rights to go on strikes.

 Vajpayee was reacting to the observations of Indian National Trade Union Congress (Intuc) President Sanjeeva Reddy and Leftist trade union leader Gurudas Dasgupta, at the inaugural session of the 39th Indian Labour Conference (ILC).

 Both Reddy and Dasgupta had raised the issue of the dismissal of 6,000 government employees in Tamil Nadu as a result of the Supreme Court ruling.
