After meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi reiterated the DMK-Congress alliance was strong.

The two leaders met for the first time after former telecom minister and DMK representative A Raja was forced to step down from the UPA Cabinet in the wake of the 2G Spectrum scam.

While responding to a question on whether the scam had affected the ties between the two allies, after his 30-minute meeting with the Prime Minister at Raj Bhavan, Karunanidhi said: “The ties are strong, as the ties between you (media) and me.”

However, Karunanidhi had skipped a dinner invitation hosted by Governor S S Barnala on Sunday evening for the Prime Minister.

The chief minister said he could not attend the dinner because he was busy attending a book release function by his close friend and renowned poet, Vairamuthu.
