PM likely to be discharged today

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to be discharged from AIIMS, where he is recuperating after a coronary bypass surgery, tomorrow.

The Prime Minister’s Office said Singh was convalescing very well at AIIMS and had increased his physical activity and dietary intake.

“The doctors attending on Singh are happy with his progress and feel that he can return home soon,” said the statement. Doctors attending the prime minister advised him to progressively step up his physical activity level over the next four weeks, the PMO said.

Dr Vijay D'Silva of Mumbai-based Asian Heart Institute told PTI that “he would be discharged tomorrow afternoon if everything goes right till that time or we might consider to extend it to Sunday.”

 

He said a decision to extend the 76-year-old leader’s stay in the hospital would be taken by a team of doctors led by his personal physician Dr KS Reddy and AHI surgeon Dr Ramakant Panda.
