Commerce minister Kamal Nath today said proposals to give additional benefits to exporters hit by an appreciating rupee are being considered by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

"The proposals involve remission of duties. We have already floated a cabinet note in this regard. The proposals are with the Prime Minister now," Nath said today on the sidelines of a TiE - KPMG summit on entrepreneurial development.

In the past five months, the government has announced three export relief packages for exporters, who have been hit hard by about 15% appreciation in the value of rupee against the dollar, year-on-year.

He also said that there is no proposal as of now to extend the maximum area of special economic zones to 5,000 hectares.
