Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will meet on Wednesday representatives of the small and medium enterprises who are seeking government intervention in rejuvenating demand that has slowed down since October.

Besides small scale divisions of the apex chambers like CII and Assocham, Federation of Indian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (FISME) and other associations representing the sector would make their presentations to the Prime Minister on the difficulties being faced by them.

"Currently, the small scale units are looking for rejuvenation in demand for their products in the wake of global recession," FISME Secretary General Anil Bhardwaj said.

The delegation would also include the knowledge industry in the small scale sector. President of the Small Knowledge Firms Association Nalin Kohli would give a presentation on the impact  of the global economic problems on the sector.

MSME sector contributes about 45 per cent of India's total manufactured output and close to 40 per cent to the country's exports. The industry employs 42 million people.

The industry has been seeking higher allocation of bank credit and the reorientation of the government's procurement policy.
