Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will tomorrow inaugurate the third 'BRICS International Competition Conference', a platform for exchanging ideas on issues relating to fair trade practices.

The two-day conference is being organised by Competition Commission of India (CCI) on behalf of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) countries in the national capital.

"The objective of the 3rd BRICS ICC is to discuss various issues and challenges in competition enforcement in BRICS countries and take the agenda of cooperation among the BRICS competition authorities forward from the earlier two conferences," Ministry of Corporate Affairs said in a statement today.

The discussions at the conference would focus on issues and challenges in setting up an affective agency, enforcement related to state owned enterprises, public procurement and creation of competition culture.

"A separate session has been provided for experience sharing by mature jurisdictions on the subject of role of Competition regulation in innovation and economic development," the statement said.

The conference is organised biennially by one of the BRICS competition regulators. The first conference was held in Russia, while the second was organised by China.

During the conference, CCI will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with European Union on competition issues.

Besides, the competition regulators in BRICS would also sign a 'Delhi Accord' on the last day of the conference (November 22, 2013).
