The Indian government will soon announce a special plan for better management and preservation of water for cultivation at the local level.
To be christened Pradhan Mantri Jal Sanrakhshan Yojana, the scheme with an outlay of Rs 1,000 crore will be announced by the Prime Minister soon. The scheme aims at preservation of water through rainwater harvesting and improvement of water bodies through check dams and other measures so that farmers have access to water for irrigation.
The state government of Gujarat has already taken the lead in this and local bodies there have built as many as 2,500 check dams with the help of the rural development department, the central minister for rural development, Kanshi Ram Rana, said
