Police arrest 161 people in Andhra

The united Andhra agitation intensified in Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions on Friday even as police arrested 161 persons for indulging in unlawful activities.

Protests were held at 397 places across the non-Telangana regions where 224 relay hunger strike and 41 indefinite hunger strike camps were being held, according to A Anuradha, inspector general and official spokesperson of police.

The agitators held road blocks at 60 places and rail blocks in 12 places. Among the 16 Osmania University students released on Friday, four were arrested again, she said.

Meanwhile, non-Telangana legislators of the Telugu Desam Party started on a ‘Bus Yatra’ from Tirupati. Their tour of the non-Telangana areas would end in Srikakulam on December 28.

 

Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal and the party MLC Y S Vivekananda Reddy continued their indefinite fast at Vijayawada and Kadapa respectively. TDP legislators, Paritala Sunitha and Raghunath Reddy, who were on fast, were shifted to hospital.
