The state police have advised the people to restrain from flaring up communal tensions following the Allahabad HIgh Court giving its judgement tomorrow on the Ayodhya/Babri issue. The police have asked people of both the communities to refrain from taking out victory rallies following the verdict.

Speaking to the media, state DGP Aravinda Rao said the police would not allow any protests or demonstrations in the state. The city police have made elaborate arrangements with extra forces.

“It is unfortunate that the event, which had taken place 600 years ago in Uttar Pradesh and which was not even known to us in Andhra Pradesh till about 25 years ago is now eagerly watched by several people,” the police chief said.

Police would be deployed in about 50 towns across the state that are perceived as sensitive. The ban on bulk SMSes would continue for three more days, he said.
