About six home-made bombs were recovered in the Mumbai suburb of Andheri today, city police said.

The city police's anti-terrorism chief said the bombs were found late Tuesday night and were immediately defused.

"We don't think this has anything to do with terrorism," the chief said.

Another police official said the bombs could have been meant for use by criminal gangs. They were discovered on the eve of a huge welcome for India's triumphant Twenty20 cricket world cup squad.

The players arrived in Mumbai this morning to a massive victory parade with thousands of joyous fans braving rain to cheer their heroes.
