The Mumbai police have formed a special team to investigate a complaint filed by ICICI Bank in which it has alleged that a cartel of certain brokers and some other persons tried to manipulate the bank’s share prices, which took a heavy beating during the last week.
Talking to reporters, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria said, “We have received a 22-page complaint from the bank but no specific names have been mentioned in it. However, it mentions certain text messages that were circulated with the intention to malign the bank’s reputation.”
“We will probe whether there was any criminal conspiracy behind circulating these messages and who started them,” he added.
