Politics to drive fixed-line tariffs despite Trai move

 Until now, it was mandatory for all operators to offer their subscribers the standard tariff rate specified by Trai.

 Private basic operators said fixed-line tariffs would continue to be subsidised as political motives would force Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) to offer lower rates.
