Polling begins on a dull note in Thane district

Polling for the four Lok Sabha constituencies in Thane district began on a dull note amid tight security.      

Thane city and other parts of the district including Kalyan, Dombivili, and satellite township in Navi Mumbai witnessed low voter turnout at polling booths.

In the Bhiwandi area in the first hour just two per cent of polling was reported. Howeover, gradually the momentum picked up with large number of burqa-clad women were seen outside the polling booths.

In many parts of Thane there were no power supply for more than two hours.      

However, the polling was not affected as the Electronic Voting Machines are battery operated, an election official said.
