Pollution Board serves showcause notices on 11 industries

Closure direction to seven units.

The Orissa State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) has served showcause notices on 11 industries operating in the state including J K Paper Ltd-Rayagada, Rourkela Steel Plant's (RSP) Captive Power Plant (CPP), Paradeep Port Trust (PPT) and Ballarpur Industries Ltd-Koraput for violation of environmental pollution norms.

The other industries that have been issued showcause notices by the pollution watchdog in this fiscal are Bhushan Power & Steel Ltd (Sambalpur), Swastik Ispat Ltd-Sundargarh, OCL Iron & Steel Ltd-Sundargarh, Mahakali Ispat Ltd-Sundargarh, Orissa Sponge Iron Ltd-Keonjhar, Pawansut Sponge Ltd-Jharsuguda and T R Chemicals-Sundargarh.

This was stated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in the state assembly.

 

The OSPCB has also issued closure direction to seven industries in this fiscal.

These industrial units include Agresen Sponge Pvt Ltd-Sundargarh, Shiv Metaliks-Sundargarh, Sree Metaliks-Keonjhar district, Monika Holdings-Sundargarh, Vedavyas Ispat-Sundargarh, Maa Shakambari Sponge Pvt Ltd at Kuarmunda in Jharsuguda district and Seeta Integrated Steel & Energy at Kalunga Industrial Estate in Jharsuguda district.

In 2009-10, the OSPCB had issued closure directions on Rohit Ferrotech at Kalinganagar Industrial Estate in Jajpur district and Seeta Integrated Steel & Energy.In the last fiscal, the pollution board has served showcause notices on as many as 31 industries.

These include Vedanta Aluminium, Talcher Super Thermal Power Station of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), JSL Ltd, Dinabandhu Steel & Power, Visa Steel, Scan Steel, SMC Power Generation, Maithan Ispat Ltd and Sree Metaliks to name a few.
