Port workers to get 16% interim bonus for last fiscal

Port and dock workers at all the major ports would get 16 per cent interim bonus by way of production linked reward (PLR) for 2004-05.
 
This follows a meeting convened by Union Minister of shipping TR Baalu, with five federations of port and dock workers, the president of All India Port & Dock Workers' Federation SR Kulkarni said, in a release on Wednesday.
 
Each worker would get Rs 4,800 as a result of the announcement made by the minister, the release said adding, the bonus would be paid early next month in the wake of upcoming festivals in different parts of the country.
 
The minister also advised the labour union to consult the shipping secretary and Indian Port Association (IPA) chairman for finding a permanent solution for payment of PLR within six months.
