As US Secretary Colin Powell left India after a two-day visit, he put the onus of normalisation of the India-Pakistan relationship on Pakistan and declared that India and Pakistan were on the right track, but needed only to be patient.

Powell met Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and called on the leader of Opposition, Sonia Gandhi, and the National Security Advisor, Brajesh Mishra.

At a joint press conference addressed by him and foreign minister Jaswant Singh, Powell said he was confident that the issue of de-escalation of forces on the Indo-Pak border and confidence building would eventually lead to dialogue between the two countries.
