Power tariffs in Uttar Pradesh are set to rise by 10 per cent in the urban areas and by 25 per cent in the government departments with the state's power corporation preparing a proposal in this regard.

The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) would be sending the proposal to the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission for its approval, company sources said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati had recently hinted at increasing the power charges, saying state power utilities incurred a loss of Rs 5,500 crore leading to a financial crisis.
