The Confederation of Indian Industry has called for public-private partnership in waste management.

“Public private partnerships are a must to strengthen waste management. All the stakeholders -- government, civil society, technology providers and investors -- must come together and address the issue,” Anjan Das, senior director of CII, said here on Friday.

He was speaking at a two-day national symposium on municipal waste management that began here today. The event is being organised by the CII-Andhra Pradesh in association with the AP Technology Development Centre.

India generates 140,000 tonnes of solid waste everyday of which, only 8-9 per cent is scientifically disposed of.

Hyderabad produces 5,000 tonnes waste a day.
