The anti-land acquisition activists at Gobindpur and dhinkia villages in the Posco project site in Jagatsinghpur district have re-erected the barricades to restrict the entry of officials into these areas even before the survey teams could complete the socio-economic and horticulture survey in some patches of the Dhinkia panchayat.
The activists also forcibly drove away the survey teams from their village while they were trying to enumerate trees, betel vines and prawn gheris on the government land near Jatadhari river mouth, where Posco proposes to build its captive port.
Earlier, the barricades put up at the entry point of Gobindpur and Dhinkia villages were removed after the leaders of Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS), the outfit agitating against the project, agreed to cooperate with the district officials in the socio-economic survey of the area following a meeting with chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
However, as the things have unfolded, PPSS seems to have gone back on its word. During the survey in Dhinkia village, the epicenter of anti-Posco movement, the PPSS activists not only did not cooperate with the survey teams, but also threatened to impose fines on the villagers who came forward to identify their moveable and immovable properties, likely to be affected by the project, for calculation of compensation.
PPSS argued that there was no need of survey in the private land of Dhinkia panchayat as chief minister, Naveen Pattnaik has assured to exclude 300 acres of private land in Dhinkia from the Posco project.
The main aim of the survey was to identify displaced families and beneficiaries for offer of employment and compensation package.
