External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee today held an urgent meeting with Leader of Opposition LK Advani to discuss national security in the wake of terror attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sources said it was Mukherjee who had sought the meeting with Advani. Both the leaders held a closed-door meeting at Advani’s residence in the evening.

Sources said Mukherjee had come to discuss the deteriorating security situation in Pakistan as today’s attack in Lahore had come as a reminder of the “Taliban and other jehadi elements having bases close to the Indian border”.

BJP sources said Mukherjee’s meeting was aimed at formulating the Indian response to the situation.
