The sessions court today awarded life imprisonment to Pravin Mahajan for the murder of his elder brother and BJP leader Pramod Mahajan. The prosecution had earlier in the day pleaded that the death sentence be awarded to him.

Forty-eight-year-old Pravin was held guilty yesterday for murder and trespassing into his brother's house with an intention to commit an offence punishable with death.

Pravin had gone to Pramod's Worli residence on April 22, 2006 in the morning and had fired three bullets at him with his licensed revolver. Pramod succumbed to his injuries 12 days later at a city hospital.

While convicting Pravin, the court accepted Pramod's last words to his brother-in-law, Gopinath Munde - "What was my fault that Pravin fired bullets at me?" - while being taken to the hospital on April 22 last year, as his dying declaration.
