There is political deadlock in the state since the people of Uttar Pradesh have not given a clear mandate in favour of any party in the recent elections, Singh said in a statement issued here.

The government, he said, should extend the Presidents rule so that the leaders of political parties could think in a sober manner about the viable formation to run the government.

Singh said he already told the UF leaders who had called on him to persuade the Centre to extend the Presidents rule. Singhs statement comes in the wake of reports that the UF and the Bahujan Samaj Party could not come to terms as to who should lead the coalition government.
