Price hikes, monsoons push propel agri input firms' Sept quarter profits

Companies have passed on increased raw material costs successfully, bet big on northeast monsoon for rabi season growth

Agri input companies have posted decent growth in revenue and net profit for the quarter ended September 2018, due to an increase in sales volume on normal monsoon rainfall and price hikes.

PI Industries, for example, posted a 29 per cent jump in revenue to Rs 7,230 million for the quarter ended September 2018, from Rs 5,611 million for the corresponding quarter last year. The company's net profit was up 17.5 per cent to Rs 944 million during July–September 2018, from Rs 803 million for the year-ago period.
