Karnataka government has allotted 253 acres to set up a 'Printech Park' at Harohally on Kanakapura road. |
The government, through the Karnataka Industries Areas Development Board (KIADB), has acquired the land and is in the process of gazette notifying land to hand over it to the Karnataka state printers association (KSPA) to run the park. |
"The park will take care of the printing and packaging needs of the state and many export oriented units. Total project cost of the park is estimated at Rs 40 crore of which land cost is Rs 30 crore," said C R Janardhana, chairman Printech Park and past president KSPA. |
The park, when completed will house some 300 companies on half acre and one acre plots and has potential to offer employment to two lakh people in Bangalore rural district. |
For the first time, KSPA which was set in 1941 is holding an APPEX-2005 (Asian printing and packaging exhibition) in Bangalore. The exhibition has attracted printing and packaging units from the state and other southern states and a business turnover of Rs 80 crore is anticipated, said Cyril Pereira, managing director, Tribune Exhibitors. |
Karnataka has 12,000 printing and packaging units and of which 3,500 acre in Bangalore. |
"About 90 per cent of the units are small scale units, where setting up a park can be beneficial and financially viable for many," said Janardhana. |
Of the 253 acres, KSPA has already received bookings for 100 acres. Prominent printing units which have booked space are Bangalore Press, Manipal Press, Lakshmi Mudranalaya and Sri Venkateshwara Printing Press. |
According to Janardhana, in the printech park, print testing and training centre have also been planned to strengthen the printing and packaging sector labour requirements. |
The move to set up this park comes following the Supreme Court order prohibiting the functioning of printing units in the residential and city centres, he added. |
