Pro-Telangana outfits intensified their stir on Monday, a day after the Centre deferred its decision on the long-pending issue of according a separate statehood for the region.
Demonstrations were held by the supporters of Telangana in various parts of the region, while the 36-hour ‘Samara Deeksha’ being held at Indira Park in the city continued for the second day.
Addressing at the Deeksha premises, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president, K Chandrasekhara Rao, called for continuation and intensification of the struggle till the goal was achieved. He asked all the Congress ministers, MPs and legislators hailing from the region to resign from their party in protest.
Meanwhile, a Rangareddy district court admitted a petition filed by Telangana Junior Advocates Association president, Naresh Kumar, which alleged that Union ministers Sushil Kumar Shinde and P Chidambaram have “cheated” Telangana people by their statements on the statehood. The petition sought police investigation against the two ministers under section 420 (cheating) of the IPC.
The court directed the local police to investigate into the allegation and submit a status report by February 14. Police said that they were yet to receive the court orders.
On December 9, 2009, Chidambaram, who was the Union home minister at that time, announced that the process of forming the Telangana state was initiated. Three years later, on December 28, 2012, incumbent Shinde said that a decision would be taken on the issue within a month. However, on January 27, Shinde said that it may take little more time to reach the final conclusion.
