Probe Into Fire In Gandhar Oil Well

BUSINESS STANDARD

The government has decided to order an inquiry into the fire in an oil well at Gandhar field of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). Well number G-345 in Gandhar field, Ankleshwar Asset, had caught fire at 2.30 am on October 30, 2001.

The evidence at the site had indicated that the fire was caused by miscreants while pilfering crude oil from the well. The fire was controlled and extinguished at 9.50 am on November 9, 2001.

Petroleum minister Ram Naik announced today the inquiry committee would be headed by Major Gen (Retd) S C N Jatar, and will have Ishwari Dutt and H S Cheema as members.

 

The committee will submit its report by March 31, 2002. However, an interim report may be made available to the government by January 31, 2002.
