The Income Tax (I-T) unit of the Pune region has given a final warning to top corporates and wealthy individuals who are not paying their tax dues. This amounted to over Rs 300 crore over last 15 years. |
This is despite the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) asking the defaulters. The Pune I-T unit, with annual I-T collection target of Rs 10,576 crore, has formed a task force to recover Rs 300 crore dues. |
Pune commissioner of Income Tax Raj Kumar said here on Wednesday that all the Rs 300 crore dues have been approved and confirmed by the ITAT and none has been challenged in the high court. |
"When individuals and corporates file IT returns, only 2 per cent of the cases are scrutinised by assessing officers. If hidden income is found then the parties concerned are called for hearing and a specific demand of I-T is made," he said. |
