Punjab govt constitutes rehab cell for Libyan immigrants

To facilitate the rehabilitation of immigrants of Punjabi origin from Libya after the political turmoil there, the Punjab government has constituted a ‘Rehabilitation Cell’ under the director of Disaster Management, Bhawna Garg, here in the Punjab Civil Secretariat.

A decision to this effect was taken by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in a meeting here. Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said an Apex Committee comprising Financial Commissioner (Revenue) AR Talwar, Principal Secretary (Home) DS Bains and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister DS Guru had been constituted under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary SC Agrawal to look into the policy issues involved in the rehabilitation process.

 

The state government has also set up a ‘help desk’ at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi, under the supervision of Resident Commissioner Punjab Bhawan, New Delhi, K Siva Parsad for extending all possible assistance to the immigrants from Libya to enable them to reach their homeland comfortably.
