The Punjab government has modified a medicity policy relating the allotment of land and plots for multi-speciality hospitals, medical university-cum-hospital and medical research centres in the Medicity in New Chandigarh.
The state has also amended its information technology (IT) policy to set up IT services, IT-enabled bio-technology and research and development facilities in SAS Nagar.
According to a spokesman, the detailed policy in this regard had been approved by the Punjab Cabinet to give a fillip to business ventures in Medicity and IT City under the “Invest Punjab” initiative.

He said Medicity would be country’s one of the largest place of bio-technology and healthcare solutions. He said more than 260 acres of land has been earmarked for this purpose in New Chandigarh where 100 acres would be utilised for setting up of world-class multi-speciality hospitals, medical university/medical college cum hospital and medical research centre.
He said world-class infrastructure and commercial activities would be ensured on the remaining area.
He said the government is all set to make Punjab IT hub of the country like Bengaluru. He said for this purpose, IT units on large scale were being set up by multinational companies.
He also said this would generate more skilled employment and would help realise the dream of Punjab for evolving as an IT hub.
