The Punjab government is exploring the possibility of a tie-up with the UK government as well as the British Council for an institutionalised teacher’s training programme in spoken English skills. The issue was discussed at a meeting with the UK Minister for Business and Skills McFaden had with Punjab Chief Minster Parkash Singh Badal here in Chandigarh.

The CM asked McFaden to facilitate a tie-up with renowned UK institutions under which teachers from that country could visit Punjab for short duration teachers training courses to improve the communication skills of Punjab teachers in good English. McFaden promised to pursue the matter both with the UK government as well as with the British Council.

It may be recalled here that the British Council is already engaged in similar programmes as ‘ Project English’ but Badal sought to expand and institutionalised the same under a long-term regular arrangement and for this Badal offered to establish a Skill Center in the state.

The UK Minister is here to study water management and the impact on climate change on Punjab’s economy, apart from educational exchange.
