The Punjab government is in process of introducing State Service Delivery Gateway (SSDG) - an electronic delivery of services. The project aims to achieve a high order of interoperability and facilitate government to citizens services delivery. It would enable citizens to submit their applications electronically through a common gateway and collect the certificate or service from the same location.

Initially 32 services of 8 departments namely Health & Family Welfare , Home Department, Social Security, Local Government, Food & Civil Supplies, Governance Reforms, personnel department etc. have been planned to be covered under the project. The government is planning to introduce these services in 2-3 months.

Taking a step forward in this direction, the project has been awarded to M/s HP India Pvt. Ltd. to design, develop, test, implement, operate and maintain for 3 years for "e-forms application, State Portals and SSDG" along with installation, commissioning and maintenance of IT infrastructure.

A senior official maintained that the software requirement specifications for 32 services have been approved by respective departments. "Under this project the data center hardware has been supplied by M/s HP India limited and State portal shall be made live by October 31. For the project HP India will provide desktops, printers, scanners in all the field offices involved in the service delivery of these services.

The objectives of the project is to provide easy, anywhere and anytime access to Government services (both information and transactional), reducing the number of visits of a citizen to a government department for availing the services, Reducing the administrative burden as well as service fulfillment time and costs for the Government, citizens and business, Delivery of services through Gram SUWIDHA Kendras (GSKs),

Under the project, it is envisaged that State Portal (SP) along with State Service Delivery Gateway (SSDG) will be developed and implemented so that citizens are provided with outlets where they can access the services under a single interface mechanism in the form of the Portal.

The project also entails delivery of the services through Gram SUWIDHA Kendras by leveraging the common infrastructure (SWAN, SDC etc.) and develops the applications and infrastructure required for deployment of State Portal and State Service Delivery Gateway (SSDG) for the State. This will enable citizens to download forms and submit their applications electronically.
