While asserting the UPA government's commitment to utilising public funds for social sector schemes, Finance Minister P Chidambaram today sought private sector investment in the revival of public sector companies and infrastructure upgradation.

"The space (for private sector) has enlarged in the last six months and I want you to occupy it aggressively. While the bulk of the needs of the social sector would be funded from public funds, the needs of the industry should be funded from private funds. That is the challenge the private sector must accept and, over the next four-five years, show results. I promise you that I will not only walk together but work together with you in achieving this objective," he said at the annual convention of CII.
