A Calcutta High Court division bench granted bail to the two AMRI directors — R S Goenka and Prashant Goenka — on Wednesday.
Hearing the bail plea of the directors, the division bench has observed that the two directors had “lesser responsibility than the members of the managing committee.” Both of them were in custody since December 9, as a fire broke out at an AMRI hospital in Dhakuria claimed 91 lives.
The Kolkata police had filed chargesheet against directors like R S Goenka, R S Agarwal, S K Todi, Ravi Todi, R S Goenka, Prashant Goenka, Manish Goenka, Aditya Agarwal, Rahul Todi, Priti Sureka and D N Agarwal and firm executives Sanjib Pal, Satyabrata Upadhyay, Sajid Hossain and Pritha Banerjee.
Charges were also framed against government nominees like Moni Chhetri and Pranab Dasgupta.
Three directors — including Chhetri, Dasgupta and Upadhyay — got bail in trial court, while R S Agarwal got bail from Calcutta High Court.
