Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi will be making a trip to the United Nation's General Assembly (UNGA) after Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee's trip to New York.

Mukherjee will be leaving for New York on Tuesday. India is slated to speak at the meeting between September 26-28.

Rahul will be part of the non-official delegation of Indian MPs led by BJP leader Sushma Swaraj which will be interacting with UN members after the speech of the Indian representative.

The job of the non-official delegations is to interact with various wings of the UN dealing with education, health, security etc. Other members of this delegation include Mufti Mohammad Sayyed of the People Democratic Party (PDP) and Anil Basu of the CPM, besides at least 13 other Indian MPs.

"The MPs' delegation will be following Pranab Mukherjee, and will form the non-official delegation," said a top source in the government.

This will be Rahul's second trip abroad at such a level.
