The reasons: Hardworking and all qualities for the top job.
It was out in the open. At a public function at Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, doting sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that her brother and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi would become the prime minister one day. The reason she cites is that Rahul is ‘hardworking and has all the qualities for the top job’.
She further said that in the coming Lok Sabha elections, though, Manmohan Singh was the prime ministe rial candidate of the Congress party.
Campaigning for Rahul, Priyanka also sought support for the Congress party on the basis of her brother’s dedicated work for the constituency, including construction of many new roads in the area, electrification of villages as well as improvement in health care facilities. She said Rahul had fulfilled his promise to improve education, especially for the backward classes in the region.
Among other achievements of Rahul, she noted, were successful run of self-help groups in the area run by women. Priyanka appealed to people to vote for Rahul for a better future for the constituency and the children.
Gandhi said that the United Progressive Alliance government had launched the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) and millions of people had got employment through it. As part of the government’s initiative of waiving farm loans, about 90,000 farmers in Amethi itself had been benefited.
