Railway earnings up in April-May

Continuing with the growth trajectory, Indian Railways earned Rs 14,714.04 crores in April-May as against Rs 13,710.66 crores during the same period last year, registering an increase of 7.32 per cent.

The goods earnings of the PSU have gone up from Rs 9,333.48 crores during April 1 to May 31, 2009 to Rs 10,004.02 crores during same period this year, an increase of 7.18 per cent.

The total passenger earnings by the PSU during first two months of the financial year 2010-11 were Rs 4,119.37 crore compared to Rs 3,831.02 crores during the same period last year, registering an increase of 7.53 per cent.

 

The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 420.97 crores during April-May 2010 compared to Rs 397.28 crores during the same period last year, an increase of 5.96 per cent.

The total number of passengers booked during April-May 2010 were 1273.93 million compared to 1203.51 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 5.85 per cent.

In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April-May 2010 were 634.07 million and 639.86 million compared to 600.59 million and 602.92 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 5.57 per cent and 6.13 per cent respectively.
