Indian Railways revenue earnings have seen a spike of 13.27% for the period of eight months between April to November. The rise in revenue can be attributed to the hike in freight rates as the busy season surcharge of 15% was levied from October 1 this year.
The total earnings of Railways for the nine month period was Rs. 89339.64 crore compared to Rs. 78871.47 crore during the same period last year. This is hike of 13.27% in earnings. Last year, the busy season surcharge was between 12-15% depending on the type of commodity.
The total passenger revenue earnings during April-November also registered an increase of 20.08% compared to last year. The earnings stood at Rs. 24523.69 crore compared to Rs. 20423.28 crore during the same period last year.
