Railways earnings up 12% to Rs 33,000 cr

Maintaining their upward trend, Railways' earnings have increased by about 12% in the first four months in the current fiscal.

Railways have earned Rs 33,134.31 crore during April-July this year as against Rs 29,618.70 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 11.87%, according to Railway Ministry data.

The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs 19,896.20 crore during April-July, 2010 to Rs 22,269.74 crore during the corresponding period this year, an increase of 11.93%.

The total passenger earnings during first four months of the current fiscal were Rs 9,314.76 crore compared to Rs 8,352.70 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 11.52%.

 

The earnings from other sources amounted to Rs 919.72 crore during April-July 2011 compared to Rs 831.33 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 10.63%.

The approximate number of passengers booked during April-July 2011 was 2731.52 million compared to 2590.08 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 5.46%.
