Railways suspend six for Sabarmati mishap

Meanwhile, the commissioner of safety (CoS) initiated an investigation on Saturday.

On Friday, the state governor, Naval Kishor Sharma, submitted a report to the Union Government on the attempted attack on the Union railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav when he visited Vadodara to supervise the rescue work. However, the details of the report are not known.

Meanwhile, the state government has formed a committee, under the chairmanship of retired high court judge N B Patel, to probe the attack on RJD supremo Yadav. The commission will submit its report to the state government in three months time.

Those who have been suspended by the Railway are: K S Gohil, senior section engineer, Godhra; B R Meena, senior section engineer, Derol; A K Luna, assistant signals and telecom engineer; Y S Vankar, assistant station master, Samlaya; Balwanting Jaysingh, line man, Samalaya and his helper Bodu Poona. However, no offence so far has been registered against these employees.

"Six employees, who were on duty on the day of accident, have been suspended on the basis of prima facie evidences against them. Further actions will be taken once the report by Prashant Kumar, CoS is out. However, we can not rule out suspension of more officers at this point of time," said Naresh Malhan, additional divisional railway manager.

On Saturday, a group of Congress leaders led by B K Gadhvi met the governor and submitted a memorandum about the incident that occurred in SSG Hospital Vadodara. Congress leaders have also submitted a CD covering the incident where a group of people had attacked Yadav.

The city Congress president, Bhikha Rabari said, "We have identified the workers of BJP, VHP and Bajarang Dal in the mob that tried to put Yadav's car on fire. The police did not intervene at the right time to control the situation.

The law and order has failed in the state and we have demanded to remove the Narendra Modi government in the large interests of the state."

On Saturday, team from the Forensic Science Laboratory conducted mock drill in the campus of SSG Hospital at Vadodara where an agitated group of people had attempted to attack Yadav. Mob broke the rear glass of Yadav's car and pelted stones at his team.
