A feeble western disturbance on the foothills of the Himalayas triggered rain in the national capital but it won't make up for the overall weekly deficit, which stood at a high of 22 per cent during the week ended August 27.
The deficit during August 21 to 27 was the third straight week when monsoon rain was less than normal. In the previous week, the monsoon was around 25 per cent below normal. In the northern parts of the country, which also includes the national capital, the rain during the week was almost 100 per cent less than normal.
However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday monsoon activity might revive over western and central India in the next few days due to a low pressure area.
"There is a system (low pressure area) formed between the coast of northern Karnataka and southern Odisha. This will bring good rain in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, entire state of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, and south Gujarat in coming four to five days," a PTI report said, quoting Laxman Singh Rathore, director-general of the IMD.
