Rais Friends Were Dawood Men

BSCAL

The Central Bureau of Investigation yesterday reiterated that some terrorists allegedly harboured in government guest houses in Delhi and Mumbai at the instance of former Union minister Kalpnath Rai had links with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

Commencing his final arguments in the Tada case against Rai and his former personal assistant (PA) and ten others, the CBI counsel, N K sharma, told the court that the telephonic evidence of conversation obtained by the prosecution showed that the accused allegedly harboured who were working for Dawood Ibrahim. Refuting the defence argument that the statements of prosecution witnesses were contradictory, Sharma contended that no two persons could talk in the same language.

It is natural that in an incident witnessed by many persons some contradiction are bound to be there. However, the arguments relating to the role allegedly played by Rai and his PA, S P Rai, could not be taken up yesterday and the hearing was deferred for today by the additional district and sessions judge .
