The Rajasthan government is planning to set up a tourism board. The board would have representatives from government departments and the private sector, tourism department officials said. "It will give suggestions on boosting tourism," said a senior government official.

The state recorded a 50 per cent growth in domestic tourist arrivals and a 49 per cent increase in foreign tourist arrivals in 2003. "We hope to double the tourist inflow in 2004-05 in both the domestic and overseas tourists segments," he said.

Rajasthan remained the favourite tourist destination in India in 2003.
