Rajkot city to have unique ID for every property

Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has decided to give unique property identification number (PID) for every the property in the city as part of urban reforms.

It has already introduced system of e-governance using IT application which include GIS (geographical information system) and MIS (management of information system) for various services.

Rajkot is the first city in Gujarat where all the city infrastructure and municipal services is being made available through GIS-MIS interface.

Under the GIS mapping taken up, every property including dwelling units, commercial and institutional buildings, falling under the jurisdiction of RMC has been surveyed and mapped such that all the information regarding the building its units was available in a database including photograph of the property.
 

RMC town planning officer B H Rupani said, "By using the data on a random sample basis our property tax collection has increased from Rs 120 crore per annum to Rs 160 crore in last two years, a rise of 33 percent. There would be huge gains in property tax collection once we complete the survey and ground verifications of all the properties in the city."

Special survey squads will go door to door to further validate and finalize all data related to properties mapped through GIS.
