Satyam Computer Services founder B Ramalinga Raju, who suffered a heart attack last week, underwent angioplasty today. He had blockages in blood vessels. A team of doctors led by Dr Seshagiri Rao, head of cardiology department at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), conducted the angioplasty.
Angioplasty is a technique in which the obstructed blood vessel is mechanically widened. According to Dr Rao, two stents have been put and his condition is stable.
Raju, one of the accused in the multicrore financial scam at Satyam and an inmate of Chanchalguda jail, was admitted to NIMS on September 7 after he complained of chest pains. Doctors later confirmed that he suffered a heart attack. Raju is also suffering from acute Hepatitis C and reported high levels of liver enzymes. Since then, he is at the intensive coronary care unit of the institute.
Rao said the treatment for Hepatitis would begin after consulting an expert team. The treatment for liver disorder is generally a long drawn process stretching 48 to 72 weeks. The medicines are given under medical supervision as the treatment is associated with side effects.
