Ramesh to release second instalment of MGNREGA funds

The non-release of second instalment of funds of around Rs 900 crore by the Centre has badly hit in the execution of number of schemes under the MGNREGA in several districts of Jharkhand.

Union rural development minister Jairam Ramesh held a review meeting on the progress of the Rs 250 -crore Saranda Development Plan and other Centre-sponsored schemes.

The state chief secretary S K Choudhury, development commissioner Debasis Gupta, secretary (home), J B Tubid, secretary (rural development), R S Poddar, secretary (forest & environment ), A K Sarkar, secretary (water resources), S K Satpathy and senior police officers joined the review meeting held at the state secretariat on Wednesday..

 

Later, Union minister told reporters that he was not aware that the funds of second instalment under the MGNREGA had not been released. He has convened a meeting in Delhi to resolve the problem in the release of the second intalment.

Under Saranda Development Plan, the Union government has decided to develop 54 Naxalite –hit villages in Manoharpur block of West Singhbhum district with construction of roads, integrated development centres and houses.
