The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has decided to interrogate former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao in connection with the Sukh Ram case.

Notice for the questioning has already been served on the former Prime Minister.

Former communication minister Sukh Ram had claimed in his statement to the CBI that the money found during raids at his residence in August last year, totalling over Rs 3.5 crore, belonged to the party. Sources said Raos statement is to be recorded to cross-verify the statement of Sukh Ram. Party president Sitaram Kesri has already been questioned in this connection and is said to have denied that the money belonged to the Congress party.

The notice is said to have been served on the former Prime Minister some time ago but the agency has not been able to record the statement as Rao has been indisposed. Last month, he underwent treatment for eye ailment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
