ED sources said yesterday that summon notices have already been served on the duo, asking them to appear at the directorates office here for detailed questioning for their alleged role in the multi-crore scandal.

While Madhav Rao, whose name has figured in the Nampalli land deal in Hyderabad, would be interrogated by senior ED officials on Tuesday, Prabhakar Rao would be grilled on Wednesday, the sources said.

The directorate has also requested the Andhra Pradesh government to freeze the prime land suspected to have been purchased by Sambasiva Rao, a key accused in the multi-crore scam, with a huge amount of kickback which allegedly came through hawala channels, they said.

Sources said the directorate has sought freezing of the land as it was allegedly purchased in the name of a company named Sai Krishna Projects Pvt Ltd, suspected to have been floated by Sambasiva Rao, the Indian representative of Turkish company Karsan Limited.

The directorate, probing into possible violation of Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (Fera) in the scam, has so far interrogated about 50 persons in Delhi as well as Hyderabad. A team of senior ED officials visited Hyderabad recently to trace the money which allegedly came through hawala, they said.

Sources said sustained interrogation of about 20 persons in Hyderabad and scrutiny of certain documents indicated that the Nampalli land was purchased with part of the alleged kickback amount of about Rs 14 crore which has been traced to a Dubai-based company.

They said about Rs 4.3 crores of the amount was suspected to have come back to the country through hawala channels and later used for the acquisition of the prime land in the heart of Hyderabad city.

Detailed inquiries by ED sleuths about the NRI account of alleged hawala operator Dharmesh Yadav in Bank of Baroda in Hyderabad indicated that part of the kickback amount to the tune of Rs 2.5 crore was deposited in that account, they said.

Certain important facts about Dharmesh Yadav and another alleged hawala operator Rajendra Babbani were obtained by ED officials from Hyderabad in connection with its investigation into possible Fera violation in the scam and alleged payment made as kickback in the deal between National Fertilisers Ltd (NFL) and Karsan Ltd, they said.

Sources said during its visit to Hyderabad, the ED team also intensely interrogated the employees of Medicon Marketing Ltd, owned by Sanjeeva Rao, a close relative of former Prime Minister P V Narasinmha Rao, and Sai Krishna Impex of Sambasiva Rao.

The brokers through whom the properties were purchased in February this year were also examined by the ED officials, they said, adding certain important documents were also procured from some banks and other agencies in Hyderabad.
