Commerce & Industry Minister Anand Sharma on Thursday said a panel, set up by the Reserve Bank of India, would take a call by April-end on reducing the cost of dollar credit to exporters.
“We have worked out a dollar credit window for exporters since 2009. We are having a re-look at this. The RBI, DGFT (Director General of Foreign Trade) and our senior officials had a meeting with RBI. By the end of this month, the RBI will take a view,” Sharma said in response to a query after announcing the last supplement to Foreign Trade Policy (2009-14).
Officials said RBI might revisit the dollar swap window, created to enhance the flow of credit to exporters. The aim is to further enhance the benefits under this window, they said. Sharma said he was always in favour of reducing interest rates and cost of credit for both exporters and industry.
