* Commenting on the Railway Budget this afternoon, Sanjiv Goenka, Vice Chairman, RPG says:
An excellent example of what one can do to unleash enthusiasm at all levels during a period when, by the Minister’s own admission, the Railways are passing through a very difficult phase. The Minister certainly deserves our thanks for courageously withstanding the ever-increasing pressure on costs and finding ways for employing resources without revising freight rates and passenger fares and over-burdening the people, business or industry.
A deserving Budget ideal for the nation’s lifeline. Particularly commendable are the accent on safety, modernization, capacity expansion, construction of new lines and low interest fund-raising. Also commendable is the Minister’s effort to enthuse her employees to outperform.
The Minister has enthusiastically touched almost every aspect of railway operations for which she deserves our thanks.
* Deloitte quoted on the Railway Budget:
“The Railway Minister has acknowledged that the Indian Railways is passing through a difficult phase financially. However, her Railway Budget has announced a host of new projects such as a bridge factory in J&K, metro coach factory in Kolkata, diesel locomotive works in Manipur, gas based power plant in Maharashtra, passenger terminals in Kerala etc.
While the announcements made by Ms. Mamta Banerjee in this budget are more than welcome by all, there is ample scope to speculate the outcome of her ambitious plans. More importantly because the budget is silent on the real progress of large projects announced earlier such as the Dedicated Freight Corridor and has not put in place any concrete proposal to finance and implement these projects.”
