Mehta said he had requested speaker H L Patel to reconvene the House so that he could prove his majority. He said he had already sent a letter to the governor which was signed by 94 rpt 94 legislators supporting him to prove his majority. He also requested the speaker to nominate someone to preside over the reconvened House in his absence, he said.Mehta said recognition of the breakaway group as a separate party by the deputy speaker was uncostitutional and illegal. He said the deputy speaker could not undo the decision already taken by the speaker who did not recognise the breakaway group.
He said as per the agenda of the House, Dabhi sould have first taken up the condolence motion and then the no-confidence motion.
Instead the deputy speaker recognised the breakaway group as a separate party first and adjourned the house sine die.
